Welcome to an album of photos I took at the 2005 Reno National Air Races, Stead Airport, Reno, Nevada. All of these photos were taken on Friday, Sept. 16, 2005 during a day of Heat races and air show exhibitions. The final races took place on Sunday, 9/18/2005. Results have been added where appropriate as an update. Photos by Joe Cook. Camera Olympus D-490Z Digital Zoom. Photos were taken at 1600x1200 resolution and reduced to 800x600 with Irfanview software.

Unlimited - RiffRaff 99 Sea Fury

Like all of the Sea Furies racing at Reno this one has had an engine exchange. They originally had a Bristol Centaurus engine of about 2000 hp that drove a 5 bladed prop. All except Dreadnaught have opted for the Wright 3350 giving about 3000 hp with a 4 blade Corsair prop. RiffRaff qualified 6th fast at 423.2 mph. Pilot is former astronaut Robert "Hoot" Gibson.
